THE NORFOLK Terrier Ch Richell Claret died on May 11, the day after his 15th birthday.
Bred and owned by Rita Mitchell, by Ch Richell Red Ace ex Ch Richell Lady In Red, Cookie started his show career at six months with BPIS at London and Home Counties Terrier Club show and finished with best veteran at the Norfolk Club 75th anniversary show in 2007 at 13 and a half years old.
In between he won six CCs, 12 RCCs, and BIS at the Norfolk Club show three times.
However, Cookie’s importance was as an influential stud dog, siring seven champions in a breed with small litters, three of whom were BOB at Crufts.
He was DOG WORLD’s and the Norfolk Club’s top stud for three years and DW’s top terrier stud dog in 2000, a first for the breed.
He is the sire of two BIS winners at general ch shows – Ch/Am Ch Cracknor Cause Celebre at Crufts 2005 and Ch/Am Ch Jaeva Dutch Gold at Darlington 2000 and the National in 2001.
A son followed in his footsteps and was top stud for a couple of years. Cookie has 11 UK champion grandchildren.
